Jacques Galopin, born at the end of the 18th century in Geneva, is the great-great-great-great-grandfather of Alice Ducros. A stockbroker, he left Marseille in 1820 to join Istanbul aboard a sailing ship. During a stopover on the island of Milos, he learns of the recent discovery of a statue by a peasant: it is the Venus of Milo.
